General Service Technician

The General Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing and servicing vehicles in accordance with dealer, distributor quality and ATL Automotive standards.

Task Breakdown:
  • Perform maintenance and service in accordance with dealers' and distributors' quality and efficiency standards.
  • Read and action the job card, paying close attention to details.
  • Order parts for work following the manufacturer's specifications and repair instructions.
  • Record items requiring attention on the upsell sheet and work order.
  • Follow the manufacturer-stipulated repair times for completion.
  • Communicate extra work (if necessary) to Workshop Controller/foreman or Manager.
  • Ensure all tasks are clarified and authorized before commencing.
  • Attend all training sessions assigned by the Company, both online and face-to-face.
  • Where assigned an Apprentice, impart knowledge and technical competencies while monitoring the quality of work.
  • Ensure all completed work orders have the necessary documentation and write-up once complete and are handed to the workshop controller/Foreman for closure.
  • Keep work stall, workbench, and tools clean/orderly.  Adhere to workshop safety rules.
  • Advice Service Advisors/Workshop Controller of any additional work required.
  • Follow correct reporting structures as laid out by the company.
  • Follow proper warranty procedures and parts tagging protocol for warranty.
  • Ensure company and client assets are maintained and cared for considerately.
  • Report any misconduct or breach of policy to a superior or the Service manager.
  • Assist with any other departmental duties requested by the Service Manager within your scope of competency or work area.
Qualification and Experience:
  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar capacity.
  • Must have at least completed Secondary Education.
  • Minimum 3 CSEC/CXC subjects, inclusive of a numerical subject.
  • Must have local or international Auto-Technician Certification and or Engineering.
  • Must be pleasant, and a team player.
  • Must have excellent time management skills.
  • Must be computer literate (basic functions).
  • Must have a driver’s license.
Competencies:
  • The technician must demonstrate an expert level of knowledge and ability to accurately analyze and complete assigned tasks while following the manufacturer's guidelines and repair instructions.
  • The technician must demonstrate the ability to plan work and meet stipulated timelines following the manufacturer's guided repair times.
  • The technician must possess the ability to work in a team environment.
  • The technician must have good attendance and punctuality.
